Femke Huizinger baroque violin | baroque viola
After having completed her Master’s degree in Philosophy with distinction, her passion for the baroque violin is now getting its free reign. Femke has recently successfully completed her Bachelor degree (grade 9 out of 10), having studied baroque violin and –viola with Antoinette Lohmann at the Utrechts Conservatorium.
For many years she has been participating in summercourses and masterclasses for chamber music and specifically concerning historical performance practice. These unique lessons with experienced musicians (John Holloway, Anton Steck, Richard Gwilt, Thomas Albert) are an important source of inspiration for her.
Femke frequently organises chamber music concerts performing with various ensembles. With her own ensembles Gesto Antico and La Corella, she played in the Fringe series of the Utrecht Early Music Festival 2011 and 2012. Gesto Antico was selected for the ‘Spotlight on young artists’ programme in the Festival in Saintes 2012.
In 2011 she was principal viola in the European Union Baroque Orchestra, and she regularly plays in professional baroque orchestras (The Netherlands Bach Society, La Sfera Armoniosa, Concerto d’Amsterdam, Nieuwe Philharmonie Utrecht, Concerto Barocco).
She is concertmaster and founding member of the Arcade Ensemble, an orchestra which pursues to touch the lives of present-day listeners, experimenting with new ways to reach an audience and optimizing the social value that music has.
