Beginning with modern horn studies in Utrecht, Hylke graduated in 2006 as a student of Peter Hoekmeijer and Jaap van der Vliet. Furthermore, he participated several times in orchestra academies specialized in early performance practice, such as NJO summer academy with conductor Jos van Immerseel and the Jeunes Orchestra Atlantique with inspiring guidance of musicians such as Alfredo Bernardini. On top of that, Hylke was a member of the European Union Baroque Orchestra in 2008 under the guidance of Lars-Ulrik Mortensen. With fortepianist Mayumi Eguro he created the Zierer Ensemble. In 2008 they played together a series of concerts in Japan. With this duo, he was selected for the finals of the International Young Artist Presentation 2009 in Antwerpen. As a member of the Thalia Ensemble he regularly plays concerts in the netherlands and abroad. In 2009 and 2010, he was invited to play in the Japanese orchestra The Classical Players Tokyo, lead by Masahiro Arita and gave lectures on the baroque and classical horn at the Toho-Gakuen School of Music in Tokyo.
