Renske Wijma natural horn | baroque horn
The young natural horn player Renske Wijma (1985) performs regularly with historical orchestras and ensembles throughout Europe including Capella Cracoviensis, das Freiburger Barockorchester, Collegium Vocale Gent, Capriccio Stravagante les 24 Violons, Vespres d'Arnadí, Concerto d’Amsterdam, Combattimento Consort Amsterdam, the Bach Choir & Orchestra of the Netherlands and Die Kölner Akademie.
She discovered the natural horn while studying modern horn at the Royal Conservatoire in The Hague and Groningen. Touched by the pure sound of the natural horn, she decided to specialize in the instrument. In 2011, Renske joined the ‘Formation supérieure’ at the Abbaye aux Dames / Centre Européen de Recherche et de Pratique Musicales in Saintes, France. In this programme she worked with such luminaries as Philippe Herreweghe, Alessandro Moccia, David Stern, Jos van Immerseel, and Claude Maury. In 2014 Renske received her Masters degree natural- and baroque horn with Teunis van der Zwart at the Amsterdam Conservatory.
Renske finds it very important that every child and every person gets the opportunity to listen to/ and to make music. Therefore she founded in 2011, together with violist Elsbeth de Jong, the innovative and exciting music project “Het Mysterie van het Verdwenen Geluid” (
